Canyoneering Adventure
Paul W.My wife and I enjoyed our canyoneering adventure with our guides - Hyrum and Jason. We are both in our 50s and are adventurous but this was our first time Canyoneering. Before leaving the facility to head to the trail, we were provided safety instructions and an overview of how to control your rate of descent while rappelling. We were then driven into the starting location within the Salt Flats and hiked about a mile to our first drop which was indicated as about 90 ft. Again there was a review of the safety aspects before we each started down. Although our adrenaline was pumping, at no time did we feel unsafe. Hyrum and Jason tried to put everyone at ease (there were 2 other couples with us) as they were secured into position and started their descent. After the first drop, we hiked a short distance to our next drop at Morning Glory Arch where we rappelled ~115 ft much of which was just a drop (no wall). We then hiked about 2 mi out to the pick-up point at the Grandstaff trailhead. Overall it was a thrilling experience. It may not be for everyone but if you are adventurous and like to test your limits, go for it.
